You can visit the towns along the lakeshore; Cyangugu, Gisenyi, and Kibuye, and interact with the locals. Gisenyi boasts of its delightful nature complete with vanishing colonial and outstanding hotels and local-brewed lagers front. It also is home to the Imbazazi orphanage that was formed due to the genocide and has since hosted thousands of orphans and is welcoming to interested visitors. Cyangugu is also a welcoming town to visitors but is more a border town, travelers visit on their way to Nyungwe National Park. Kibuye town is also one to visit providing an understanding of the rural life of Rwandans. It also has a route for fun activities such as bicycling and hiking.
