Day 1: Twin lakes Burera and Ruhondo
Stop At:Â Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo, Rwanda
Lake Ruhondo and Burera usually referred to as the Twin Lakes are the hidden gems of Rwanda and a must-stop if you plan a tour in the gorilla’s volcanoes park. The scenic lake cruise offers magnificent views of the thousand hills of Rwanda and the Virunga Mountains. The tour also gives you a chance to explore different beautiful bird species and watch the local fishermen at work.

There is a fun community-based tour near the twin lakes which offer a wonderful nature hike and village walk. The tour is an opportunity to meet local farmers and understand their culture and history.

Day 2: A visit to Musanze Cave
There are 52 caves in the Northern Province with 15.2km of cave passages, most of which are developed from Cenozoic volcanic rocks.
The longest cave in Rwanda is called Ubuvumo Bwibihonga, a multi-level system of parallel lava tubes.
The Musanze Cave is 2km long and is the most frequently visited. It is on the Innes University grounds and lies in the volcanic region dating back 65 million years, where the lava flows contributed to the Albertine Rift Valley. The cave is part of the lava basaltic layers from the Bisoke and Sabyinyo volcanoes.
Day 3. Beekeeping tourÂ
A visit to the beekeeping sites in Gakenke and Rulindo districts in the northern provinces to see how bees are kept and honey is harvested traditionally. You will be able to taste the local honey on your tour.

The surrounding area is of farmed hills that overlook the lakes, here you can undertake nature walks and birdwatching. You can also go sightseeing by taking a boat trip along the dark blue waters of the twin lakes and enjoy a breath of fresh air. The lakes are also fishing grounds giving you an opportunity to go fishing and experience Rwanda’s traditional fishing methods such as using self-made canoes consisting of one piece of wood and the use of hooks and fishnets. You may also take a tour of the islands in these lakes and interact with the locals who are mainly farmers and get to learn about their culture and day-to-day lives.
An overstay and night stay around the lake are possible due to the presence of many guesthouses, lodges, and restaurants, with great hospitality, around the lake. A visit to the lakes can be done at any time throughout the year.
