From the Kigali Genocide Memorial, you get to learn of the dreadful 1994 genocide that left more than 800,000 people in just 100 days. It serves the purpose of meaningful tribute to those that perished. The grounds of the memorial have almost 250, 000 victims of the genocide buried there. The mass graves are covered by large plates of concrete as they lie peacefully in the rush garden serving as a reminder of those we lost. In the museum, you learn about the history and background of the awful genocide through video footage, archival documents photos, and weapons enclosed in glass. It also has halls of photographs, artifacts, and information about the victims. This keeps their memories alive through the portraits and curved names. The museum also has a permanent exhibit on the history of genocide around the world and the intervention efforts from international communities.

The memorial is surrounded by beautiful and peaceful rose gardens together with cascading fountains that offer a tranquil environment for those that need to contemplate, reflect and compose themselves after visiting the memorial. The memorial gives reasons as to why genocides should not occur again globally promoting the interventions of international communities.
