On the northeastern side of Mombasa Town is the small island of Lamu. The Island shares the same name as the main town Lamu, just off Kenya's coast, a tranquil place. This old town goes way back to the 14th century, making it one of Kenya's oldest active towns and the best well-preserved Swahili settlement area in East Africa. African Travellers Ltd operates daily on the scheduled flights ensuring its clients are well convenient by the safety, comfort, and time-saving on their tour.  The Lamu Museum has its attraction on the valued Siwa horns and its two-century-old Fort that restores one of the Swahili House Museum, a small interesting place for adventure. The white sandy down on Shela Beach makes it one of the best places, a 30-minutes walk north of Lamu town.

One of the top things to try is walking about the labyrinthine streets of the Island, and there you get a glimpse of the rich trading history replicated in many buildings. The architecture introduced from Europe, India, and the Arab world is evident with a noticeable Swahili technique. Common features are tortuously carved wooden doors, hidden courtyards, rooftop patios, verandas, and coral stone buildings. Sightseeing in Lamu is the best way of stepping back in time. Most of the population in Lamu is Muslim, and thus women and men from the region dress in traditional attire.

The Island of Manda‚ from where one can locate the Lamu airport‚ is home to the Excessive Takwa Ruins. It believed people crossed a channel to established the Shela village.  The stunning ruins in the region include well-preserved mosques‚ houses, and few tombs‚ all facing Mecca, a Muslim tradition. The Island is also recognized as a breeding site for turtles; the Lamu Marine Conservation Trust protects the turtles.
